Stop waking up at midnight to fill shifts.
When a DSP calls out, the coordinator ends up calling 8 to 15 people one at a time. With CoveredShift, the shift opens up for your staff to pick up, and you approve coverage from one screen. One overtime shift you avoid pays for the month.

Nothing to install
It runs in any phone browser. Your staff don’t download anything.
Staff see only their home
Managers and DSPs only see the location they work at.
Every shift is logged
Drops, pickups, and approvals are recorded as they happen.
Covering a callout still means working the phones.
Group texts, phone trees, and spreadsheets weren't made for round-the-clock care. The cost shows up later, in overtime and the shifts that almost didn't get covered.
Midnight callouts
One callout can mean calling 8 to 15 people in the middle of the night, hoping someone picks up.
Overtime you find out about late
When hours live on a spreadsheet, overtime is a surprise you only see on the payroll bill.
Staffing-ratio risk
An uncovered shift isn’t only lost revenue. Understaffing can put your state license at risk.
How coverage works.
It works the same way whether a coordinator posts a shift or a DSP drops one.
- 1
A shift opens
A coordinator posts an open shift, or a DSP drops one they can no longer work, and it shows up as open.
- 2
Staff request it
The staff who can work it see the open shift and request it from their phone. No group text.
- 3
You approve coverage
You pick one person in the coverage queue and approve them. The home is covered and everyone gets notified.
If a DSP drops a shift, they stay responsible for it until you approve someone else. A drop never quietly turns into an empty home.
What's in the app today.
The parts agencies use to keep their homes covered.
Schedule & recurring shifts
Build the schedule once and repeat weekly or biweekly. A calendar view shows the whole month.
Coverage queue
Dropped shifts and pickup requests in one place. Approve or deny them right there.
Drop-until-refill
A DSP can drop a shift, but stays responsible until you approve a replacement.
Multi-location agencies
Run every group home in one account with a delegated invite chain: Owner → Manager → Coordinator → DSP.
DSP self-service
Staff see their assigned schedule, request open shifts, and track drops awaiting coverage.
Roles and permissions
Each person only sees what their role allows, at the location they work.
What each role gets.
Coordinators
Open shifts, approvals, and the schedule in one place, instead of a phone full of texts.
DSPs
See your shifts, pick up open ones, and when you drop a shift you know exactly who’s responsible until it’s covered.
Agency owners
See every location, set who can invite whom, and keep a record of how each home got covered.
Why not just keep texting?
Generic scheduling tools are built for restaurants and retail. CoveredShift is built for DSP group homes.
| Group texts & spreadsheets | CoveredShift | |
|---|---|---|
| When someone calls out | Text blast or phone tree at midnight | The shift opens and staff request it |
| After a DSP drops | Unclear who is responsible | The dropper stays on until you approve someone |
| Across multiple homes | One big group chat for everyone | Roles scoped to each home |
| Record of what happened | Lost in text threads | Every shift is logged |
| Made for DSP group homes | No, retail or clinical tools reused | Yes, that’s all it does |

Common questions
- Who is CoveredShift for?
- DSP agencies and group homes: the coordinators, managers, and owners who keep homes staffed around the clock.
- Do DSPs need to install an app?
- No. CoveredShift runs in any phone browser, so there is nothing for staff to download. Managers and DSPs get email notifications today, with text messaging on the roadmap.
- How do agencies get started?
- CoveredShift is currently invite-only for agencies. Reach out at hello@coveredshift.org and we will get your agency set up.
- How is our data kept separate from other agencies?
- Every record belongs to your agency and is isolated at the database level with row-level security. Within your agency, managers and staff only see the location they are assigned to.
- Is CoveredShift HIPAA-certified?
- Not in this early version. CoveredShift is built with audit logging and strict per-agency data isolation, and formal HIPAA compliance reporting is on the roadmap. We never ask for clinical or medical record data to run scheduling.
